03102019 – Bike

A great night to ride the ski trails! They were packed solid and I probably could have ridden with more air in my tires than I had. It had been sunny and a little warm. A few places had drifts on them but overall the ski trails were packed hard and looked fast for skiing! A couple of places I added a short segment of the mountain bike trails and they were in good shape too! I wish I had more time to ride a nice mix of all the trails!  Some of the hills are still tough, though I put air back in my tires before heading home and the ride home wasn’t too bad.  I also still think my quads are burning from 19.3!

Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can get some more riding in.  It is going to be a super wet spring!

Total ride time was 5.1 miles in 61 minutes.

03092019 – Ski

I had been planning to bike, but the temps were right around 30 so I felt like it might be too warm to ride and not tear up the treadway. So I opted to ski instead. It was a nice morning to be out and there weren’t too many people yet. I did the regular loop, but when I got to the bottom of the North Finger Trail, they had the Judy Loop open. I’d never skiied it before and it wasn’t freshly groomed yet. It was an Advanced trail and I could see why. I ended up falling 3 times on it! They were all on tight turns at the bottom or in the middle of a hill! Despite falling it was a fun addition to the normal loop with some tough uphill sections too. Two of the times I fell my watch got turned off. I realized it quickly on the one, but not until it started going into autosave mode (so for several minutes) so I missed a good junk of the ski which you can tell when you compare the maps.

My watch said that I got 4.3 miles in 44 minutes. The official distance of the trails is just over 8k and I was closer to 55 minutes.

03082019 – CrossFit

19.3 was no joke on the gluteus! You know when no one in the announcement makes it through the workout that it is going to be hard! For some reason the official scaled workout still had handstand pushups in it. Otherwise I did the scaled version which was:

200ft lunges with 35# dumbbell overhead

50 box step ups with 35# dumbbell

50 hand release pushups

20 Wall walks (my gym’s modification for handstand walk – not many made it to this)

In a 10 minute time cap I made it through the lunges pretty well. The box steps were hard to get into a rhythm. I took a quick walk around the box after every 10 to catch my breath. I was able to complete 32 push-ups before running out of time. I broke those up into sets of 5. Holding the dumbbell overhead for so long definitely wore on my shoulders which I didn’t realize until I was in the pushups. That would have been super fatiguing if you were upside down!

My final score was 122 of our scaled version! I was in the 3:30pm class and at that point only 1 athlete at the gym had finished the workout in under 10 minutes.

This morning I spent an hour on the trainer in the basement as the temps were like -12 with nasty windchill. While cold, the day was quite sunny.  Even though the temps were hovering around the cancellation mark we had our last ski lessons today. Quite a few kids were out and we had a great ski. We ended up with about 3.6k of skiing as a group. After we finished I hit the trails for a quick loop and did about the same distance  with the harder hills!  Despite the wind it was a nice day to be outside!

Afterwards we celebrated the last day of ski lessons by having dinner with friends at the Cajun Twist at the Trailhead.  I had the Nawlins Dog and everyone else split the rice and beans and Zeydeko Rice Bowl.  Excellent food!

03022019 – Run and Ski

With 6 more inches of fresh snow, I didn’t want to be the first bike on the trails again so I opted for a run. Normally I’d run on the sidewalks and do a boring loop in the city, but this morning I went more adventurous and headed towards the trails. I figured rightly that I’d find some paths that were more packed down, but I guess wrong that the ski trails wouldn’t be groomed yet. So at times I ran in snow that was knee deep and some harder packed snow on the edge of the groomed trails.  Running back on the paved trails was a little bit better, but they hadn’t been plowed yet either. Since I had a little time and the trails were groomed I ran home and grabbed my skis. I walked back to the natural snow and started skiing.  The snow was a little soft and wasn’t easy to move on.  So I did a short loop and then headed over to the man made stuff. It was better, but they were getting ready for a race so I didn’t ski too much. I ended at the Drevil’s Drop and walked home.

3 miles running

2.4 miles skiing

I invited my Ohio family up for a picnic… they didn’t seem too interested.
