07022019 – Kayak

The kids and I had a great time kayaking today. We took the 3 kayaks out onto Cedar Lake and paddled over to Lake of the Isles and then came back and toured the 3 beaches of Cedar Lake!! We started at the South Beach which has some new amenities, but the swim area is pretty small and mucky with lots of seaweed. We then paddled to Hidden or East Beach. This has a lot of nice shade and a nice swim area with lifeguards (oddly the only ones out today). There are some unique characters here, but not quite the reputation that it used to have. In fact, we saw two different people get cited by the Park Patrol for what appeared to be alcohol violations. Unfortunately, we realized that a pair of flip flops had been left at South Beach so we paddled back there. There are some nice houses on that part of the lake and it was fun to pick out which ones we liked!! We looked them up when we got home, one is currently for sale for $3.3 million if you are interested!! After retreiving the flip flops we made our way back to Cedar Point Beach which is a good mix of traditional beach activities and good sized swim area. Alas it was time to leave and we paddled back to the “ramp” and headed home! I checked and we did at least 3.5 miles of paddling (assuming we did straight lines and point to point).

We had a lot of fun and will probably do it again!

07012019 – CrossFit

For Strength, I did 5 per side front rack barbell step-ups (onto the kitchen stool), 5 side lunges, and 6 per side Romanian deadlifts each was 3 times through. I used the 35# kettlebell for the deadlifts and an empty barbell for the step-ups.

The MetCon was 3 x 3 minute rounds with 1 minute rest. Each round was AMRAP 3 front squat, 3 strict pullups and 3 each side plate woodcutters. I used 25# plate for the woodcutters. I didn’t do full pullups as I don’t have enough head clearance for that, but I got up as far as I could! The woodcutters were a little tricky and I wish I could have asked questions instead of just watching a video.

06302019 – Run

This was supposed to be an easy run with nasal only breathing. But it is hard to nasal breathing when you are stuffy! I think it is primarily allergy related as there is still so much pollen in the air and I’ve not really been feeling sick otherwise. It was also 77 and humid at the start of the run with a storm brewing in the background!

I did 4.32 miles in 44:46.

06292019 – Bike

I took my Mukluk out today to explore the trails. I’ve only ridden it in the winter so I wanted to see how it felt on the dirt. Overall it is a newer and nicer bike than my old Giant Iguana, but it is still a fat tire bike.  It is heavier and didn’t go up the hills quite as quick, but once its moving it like to keep moving! I did Area 36, 45 North and the two MORC sections North of Glenwood.  The North Loop was too wet to ride.   Of the 17 Strava segments I had achievements on 11 of them. 3 of which were PR’s! So that’s pretty impressive for the fattie!

Overall 8.74 miles in 1:04.

06282019 – CrossFit

This was supposed to be part of a bigger workout block, but I was only able to do the MetCon portion. It was a 10 minute AMRAP with 10 air squats, 20 mountain climbers, and 30 double unders or 60 singles or a minute of double under practice. I chose to go with the single unders just to make it more work.

I finished the 10 minutes with just over 7 rounds. I definitely lost track of the rounds with all of that counting! The mountain climbers started feeling quicker once I got into it.
