I decided on my Wirth Lake Loop and had preprogrammed the workout into my Garmin.

1) using the preprogrammed workouts I didn’t realize I needed to hit the start button a second time. Fortunately I realized this about .25 miles in. I warmed up for about a mile before trying the first interval on the path.

2) The paths were mostly dry with some icy spots. Fortunately I didn’t fall, but did slip a few times as the ice can be hard to spot in the dark.

3) My warm up pants had been slipping for a little bit and they just wouldn’t stay up. I was trying to hold them up in the middle of the interval and that just wasn’t working.

4) My watch buzzed, so I assumed it was the end of the interval. So I stopped and took my pants off (shorts in 25f wasn’t the end of the world!). Then I started jogging for my recovery. I happened to look at my watch to see what it looked like and realized I still had about a tenth of a mile in my interval. Oops!

5) Running on the path and the ski trails wasn’t too bad, but running on the unplowed path was horrible. It was pocked with frozen boot prints and wasn’t suitable for running an interval on. I had assumed more of the snow would have been melted. So I ended up running two of my intervals on the ski trails. The ski trails are technically closed tomorrow and the man made loops are pretty thin on the snow side, so I felt ok running on them today. The snowy conditions meant that my effort level was more important than my actual times.

6) I got home with 15 minutes to get ready before waking the kids up. Usually I’d have breakfast first. A little change up in the routine as I adjust to the training plan. I also took my time getting out of bed and getting out the door. Maybe 10 minutes longer than a gym day. This means I didn’t do any of the skill work.

7) Due to the conditions I didn’t use the metronome app for my step counting.

Here are my intervals:

1 5:29

2 4:25

3 4:14

Do you have any good stories from recent runs?

This morning was a few comical things on the way to completing a 3x800m workout.
