{"id":54,"date":"2007-08-27T05:03:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-27T13:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=54"},"modified":"2008-08-25T22:33:12","modified_gmt":"2008-08-26T03:33:12","slug":"race-day-bears-of-the-blue-river-10k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2007\/race-day-bears-of-the-blue-river-10k\/","title":{"rendered":"Race Day: Bears of Blue River 10K"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.wsfp.com\/projects\/images\/colorado_convention_center\/big-blue-bear.jpg?resize=108%2C163\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"163\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With a 7:30am start the Bears of <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">the <\/span>Blue River 10K insured a cooler start, with a little rain it was actually an excellent starting temp in the mid-70&#8217;s and a slight drizzle.\u00a0 The Bears is a combined 5K and 10K.<\/p>\n<p>We started out with the 5K group, not really knowing who was racing in each section.\u00a0 I started with a group of women I knew from other races and knew where running the 5K.\u00a0 I let them go after mile 2 which was a mistake but ran a 20:37 5K which was about 30 seconds off where I wanted to be.\u00a0 I was hoping to run just under 20 minutes.\u00a0 I had been having some stomach issues all week and had been fine until Saturday morning!\u00a0 I felt the lack of energy during the race.<\/p>\n<p>After passing the finish area, my wife told me that I was in second place overall in the 10K and that the leader was about a minute ahead of me.\u00a0 The second 5K is pretty lonely because of the small group of participants and the lonely course winding along the Blue River.\u00a0 That 5K pretty much stunk, I had a decent enough lead to hold onto second place but definitely should not have.<\/p>\n<p>My overall time was 43:02 (3 minutes behind where I wanted to be) but was good enough for a second place overall finish and earning $50!!!<\/p>\n<p>The race is a USATF certified course with the first 5K being an out and back and the second being a loop.\u00a0 Only small hills grace the course that has ample water stops and overall support.\u00a0 Cold water and fruit await the finishers as well as the prospect of $$$.\u00a0 This was my third year competing in Shelbyville but only my second earning money.\u00a0 It seems to come and go with the top runners.
