I threw away some broken baby equipment, broken electronics, and some other junk. \u00a0I also created several boxes of garage sale stuff that will go to my school&#8217;s annual garage sale. \u00a0I added some books and clothes to round up the variety of other stuff!<\/p>\n<p>I lost track of how much stuff I actually got rid of but it was definitely over 31 items. \u00a0 Did you participate? What did you get rid of?<\/p>\n<p>I also took on the <a href=\"http:\/\/minneapolisrunning.com\/join-january-50-100-mile-challenge\/\">January Challenge of running 50 miles<\/a> laid out by Minneapolis Running. \u00a0 Unfortunately, I didn&#8217;t quite make it. \u00a0I ran 39 miles total. \u00a0I was on track and then one Sunday I hurt my back getting Caleb out of the Rav4. \u00a0I took almost a week off and then did an easy run. \u00a0Looking at the calendar of my workouts they are all over the place! The biggest challenge to consistency has been my wife&#8217;s work schedule and then the ridiculous weather we&#8217;ve been having. \u00a0Though some of my runs were actually on days when school was cancelled and day care was open!!<\/p>\n<p>I also did 1 bike workout a week with the longest being 1:15. \u00a0And a couple of snowshoes!<\/p>\n<p>Looking into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2014\/12-challenges-for-2014\/\">February my challenge<\/a> is to do the 7 minute workout each day! \u00a0If you haven&#8217;t heard about the 7 minute work out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;ved=0CCkQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwell.blogs.nytimes.com%2F2013%2F05%2F09%2Fthe-scientific-7-minute-workout%2F&amp;ei=JJftUtL9F4z8yAHA-4HABw&amp;usg=AFQjCNHRJUD34mh1erTMpTEycV5kBFkhRw&amp;sig2=6_2x-mnwqxJbwo95HLZD5Q&amp;bvm=bv.60444564,d.aWc\">New York Times has a nice article about it<\/a>. \u00a0It is basically doing 12 exercises for 30 seconds each. \u00a0The exception in the app I&#8217;m using is that side planks are held for 20 seconds on each side. The <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.lww.com\/acsm-healthfitness\/Fulltext\/2013\/05000\/HIGH_INTENSITY_CIRCUIT_TRAINING_USING_BODY_WEIGHT_.5.aspx\">American College of Sports Medicine&#8217;s Health &amp; Fitness Journal<\/a> has an article about programs similar to the 7 minute workout and has this to say about it:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"P66\">The following is an example of a 12-station HICT program. All exercises can be done with body weight and implements easily acquired in almost any setting (<em>e.g.,<\/em>\u00a0home, office, hotel room, etc.). The exercise order allows for a total body exercise to significantly increase the heart rate while the lower, upper, and core exercises function to maintain the increased heart rate while developing strength.<\/p>\n<p id=\"P67\">Exercises are performed for 30 seconds, with 10 seconds of transition time between bouts. Total time for the entire circuit workout is approximately 7 minutes. The circuit can be repeated 2 to 3 times.<\/p>\n<p id=\"P68\">1. Jumping jacks Total body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P69\">2. Wall sit Lower body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P70\">3. Push-up Upper body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P71\">4. Abdominal crunch Core<\/p>\n<p id=\"P72\">5. Step-up onto chair Total body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P73\">6. Squat Lower body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P74\">7. Triceps dip on chair Upper body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P75\">8. Plank Core<\/p>\n<p id=\"P76\">9. High knees\/running in place Total body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P77\">10. Lunge Lower body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P78\">11. Push-up and rotation Upper body<\/p>\n<p id=\"P79\">12. Side plank Core<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The article doesn&#8217;t actually highlight the strength building aspects of the workout but does seem to indicate that overall health markers such as insulin and VO2Max can improve with a High Intensity Circuit Training workout. \u00a0There are also clear fat-loss benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Right now we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=3&amp;cad=rja&amp;sqi=2&amp;ved=0CDoQFjAC&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2F7-minute-workout-seven-high%2Fid650276551%3Fmt%3D8&amp;ei=i5ftUoqWKOLiyAH6noGwCQ&amp;usg=AFQjCNHtke0Kuizsl8ADwDVKez8WVKFlWQ&amp;sig2=RmIm60JUF8Z_X3C6lo_9Vw&amp;bvm=bv.60444564,d.aWc\">&#8220;Seven&#8221; app<\/a> on our iPad to do the 7-minute workout. Right now that is working pretty well.
