{"id":2967,"date":"2012-04-03T21:13:18","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T02:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=2967"},"modified":"2012-04-03T21:13:18","modified_gmt":"2012-04-04T02:13:18","slug":"march-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2012\/march-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"March 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March was a super busy month. \u00a0I spent a week in <a href=\"http:\/\/flic.kr\/s\/aHsjzfHScn\">Belize <\/a>with a group of 8th graders and then immediately afterwards spent a week in northern Minnesota at <a href=\"http:\/\/wolf-ridge.org\/\">Wolf Ridge<\/a> with 7th graders. \u00a0It was a long two weeks, but a lot of fun!! This March was also the <a href=\"http:\/\/minnesota.publicradio.org\/collections\/special\/columns\/updraft\/archive\/2012\/04\/new_nws_impact_based_tornado_w.shtml\">warmest March<\/a> ever in Minnesota!<\/p>\n<p>Here are my goals for 2012 and my progress towards them:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #1:<\/strong>\u00a0Finish\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tribuff.com\/\">Buffalo Triathlon<\/a>\u00a0on June 3. \u00a01\/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run. (Under 1:15)<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t able to do anything really except run while I was travelling, which I did 3 times each week while I was gone. \u00a0Right when I got back I was able to start bike commuting too, so I&#8217;ve been able to ramp both of those up. \u00a0Sadly, my official running training was supposed to start while \u00a0I was gone and I forgot to research the specific goals for each work out, so I just did more base mileage. \u00a0I&#8217;m waiting for a step-back week and then I&#8217;ll basically just cut one build cycle out of the training program for the running. \u00a0I can easily complete the 3 individual disciplines, now will just be over training on them to build overall endurance to combine them!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #2:\u00a0<\/strong>Improve on my\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frontrunnerusa.com\/event\/a-test-triathlon\">Square Lake<\/a>\u00a0time from last year (1:58) 1\/2\u00a0Mile Swim 16.5 Mile Bike 5 Mile Run<\/p>\n<p>See above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #3:\u00a0<\/strong>Use and write about the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.furman.edu\/sites\/first\/Pages\/FirstTrainingPrograms.aspx\">FIRST Method<\/a>\u00a0for my running. 5k for the spring and 10k for the fall.<\/p>\n<p>This was supposed to start the week I was in Belize &#8211; see the above notes about waiting to start after a step-back week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #4:\u00a0<\/strong>Complete\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youversion.com\/reading-plans\/project-345\">Project 345 Bible Reading plan<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 takes you through the New Testament in the year.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing to enjoy this reading plan. \u00a0Just started the book of Luke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #5:<\/strong>\u00a0Read a variety of books (genre, style, authors).<\/p>\n<p>March was actually a great month for reading. \u00a0I actually finished <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0439023483\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0439023483\">The Hunger Games<\/a> late on February 29, and finished <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B003O86FMW\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B003O86FMW\">Catching Fire<\/a> during March. \u00a0Both were super easy reads that kept asking to be read! I was able to get them both as part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/feature.html\/?docId=1000739811\">Amazon&#8217;s Kindle Lending Library<\/a>. \u00a0I also read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B001T4YVNI\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B001T4YVNI\">We Die Alone: A WWII Epic of Escape and Endurance<\/a>\u00a0which was a great story about a Norwegian\u00a0solider who was part of the Nazi\u00a0Resistance\u00a0efforts in Norway. I also read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0557725836\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0557725836\">How to Become a Nonprofit Rockstar<\/a>, which offered 50 tips to improve my nonprofit career. \u00a0Lastly, I&#8217;ve been reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B004089TB4\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B004089TB4\">Bike Snob<\/a> on the Kindle app for my phone during lunch breaks and random\u00a0down times\u00a0for at least 6 months. \u00a0I finally finished it this month. \u00a0It is a pretty funny book with random stories and bike humor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #6:\u00a0<\/strong>Document my thoughts on at least 6 of the books I\u2019ve read.<\/p>\n<p>not yet!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goal #7:<\/strong>\u00a0Blog.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running \u00a0&#8211; not a very good job!<\/li>\n<li>Midtown Phillips \u2013 averaging one post a day<\/li>\n<li>Nadia \u2013 averaging one post a week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal #8:<\/strong>\u00a0Project 365<\/p>\n<p>I took a picture every day of March. \u00a0It was easy to do while in Belize and Wolf Ridge, I haven&#8217;t actually posted those pictures to the blog yet. \u00a0I signed up for 30 Days of Biking in April and am planning to take a bike related picture each day too!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Running: 39.5 miles<\/p>\n<p>Swimming: 1.6 miles<\/p>\n<p>Biking: 78 miles<\/p>\n<p>LAST YEAR:\u00a0I ran 33.7 miles, no swim and 21 miles and 30 minutes on the bike. Plus a 5 mile snow shoe!!!
