{"id":2955,"date":"2012-07-31T07:43:24","date_gmt":"2012-07-31T12:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=2955"},"modified":"2012-07-31T07:43:24","modified_gmt":"2012-07-31T12:43:24","slug":"clearing-the-mind-while-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2012\/clearing-the-mind-while-running\/","title":{"rendered":"Clearing the Mind While Running"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/48399297@N04\/5036566416\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-img-inserted zemanta-img-configured\" title=\"Physical Training on Exercise Jordan Express\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5036566416_7d43172e8a_m.jpg?resize=240%2C160\" alt=\"Physical Training on Exercise Jordan Express\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Photo credit: Defence Images)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Got a problem that needs solved, go for a run. \u00a0When I was in shape and running on a regular basis I could feel the difference if I skipped a workout. \u00a0Not only did my body feel different, but my mind didn&#8217;t seem as sharp. \u00a0Now that I&#8217;m out of shape I don&#8217;t feel that same weirdness when I don&#8217;t run, but oh when I do workout my mind and body feel so much better.<\/p>\n<p>A recent example, I was struggling to figure what to write about for my upcoming blog post on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynpntwincities.org\/blog\">YNPN-TC blog<\/a>. \u00a0Those posts have to be high quality and relevant to young non-profit professionals (unlike my sometimes randomness here). \u00a0My last three posts were about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynpntwincities.org\/blog\/2010\/11\/11\/nonprofit-cross-training.html\">Nonprofit Cross-training<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynpntwincities.org\/blog\/2011\/6\/13\/take-a-leap-tips-for-changing-your-career.html\">Take a Leap: Tips for Changing Your Career<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynpntwincities.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/23\/strengthening-your-work-and-reputation-during-times-of-chang.html\">Strengthening Your Work and Reputation During Times of Change<\/a>. \u00a0What should I write about next?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been feeling a little overwhelmed lately with my various commitments and the workloads related to them. \u00a0On a recent run my mind wandered and started thinking about my blog post and then later about feeling\u00a0overwhelmed\u00a0and then BAM! \u00a0Information Overload (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynpntwincities.org\/blog\/2012\/4\/5\/how-to-fight-information-overload.html\">read my post and get some tips<\/a>). \u00a0I get too many e-mails, am subscribed to too many RSS feeds, too many Facebook and Twitter friends, etc. \u00a0If I could figure out a way to clean some of that up, I&#8217;d feel like I had more mental space.<\/p>\n<p>The blog post is forthcoming, but going out for a run helped clarify the idea. \u00a0I think working out is a great time to clear your mind and to solve problems that are happening in your life. \u00a0I don&#8217;t think you&#8217;ll want to say, I&#8217;m running 3 miles today and by the end of the run I&#8217;m going to solve X problem. \u00a0But it might work for larger issues. \u00a0Think back to the series I did on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/sacred-art-of-running\/\"> Sacred Art of Running<\/a> and Warren Kay&#8217;s ideas about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/contemplating-while-running\/\">contemplation<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/meditation-during-a-run\/\">meditation<\/a>. \u00a0He talks about using mantra&#8217;s to seed or focus our mind.
