In a triathlon the order is swim &#8211; bike &#8211; run. \u00a0Hardest to easiest in my opinion. \u00a0But, I am a runner so running should be the easiest. \u00a0Now that I&#8217;ve been bike commuting almost every day and doing some longer rides on the weekend running is getting easier. \u00a0While swimming on a somewhat regular basis has made it more enjoyable, it isn&#8217;t really getting easier and actually requires the most prep work and is the least social.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been swimming with a group of triathletes, and my friend who organizes the swims made it fairly clear she wants me to give triathlons a tri, so I&#8217;ve been thinking about it more. \u00a0A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00005NIOR?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00005NIOR\">Runners World<\/a> cover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runnersworld.com\/article\/0,7120,s6-238-525--13572-0,00.html?cm_mmc=training-_-2010_07_20-_-training-_-TRAINING:%20Try%20a%20Triathlon\">story on switching from running to triathlon<\/a> also got me thinking. \u00a0Swimming is the hardest ( have I mentioned that?) and this week I only got out once for 600 yards.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest problem is that I can&#8217;t run &#8211; at least not any distance or with any speed. \u00a0I mean seriously, I only ran 4 miles last week! And that was my highest mileage since March!! \u00a0I was thinking about doing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teamortho.us\/Minneapolis-Duathlon\/\">Minneapolis Duathlon<\/a> when I remembered that the second discipline in a duathlon is running, oops.<\/p>\n<p>As I&#8217;ve been increasing my bike mileage both commuting and &#8220;training&#8221; I&#8217;ve also been contemplating a nicer bike for the training parts of life. \u00a0It seems crazy to drop a couple of thousand on a super nice bike that would only get ridden a few times a week, but it is very tempting. I&#8217;ve started looking at craigslist and need to start trying to figure out how much I&#8217;m willing\/able to spend on a new toy. This week I did 50 miles of just commuting and errands &#8211; way more than I drove!<\/p>\n<p>So I maybe looking at a late summer\/early fall triathlon. \u00a0On Thursday I actually ran in the morning, did my normal bike commuting, and swam in the evening. \u00a0I was quite tired, but it was the first time I&#8217;d done all 3 at once. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see how the running goes, especially after <a href=\" http:\/\/twv.convio.net\/goto\/crossrunstherive\">Ragnar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The most notable thing though is that when I was recently getting some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D5%26ih%3D3%5F0%5F5%5F2%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1%5F0%5F1.98%5F30%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Dbike%2520shorts%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957\">bike shorts<\/a>, I made sure to buy a pair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fnoss%26fsc%3D2%26ih%3D1%5F2%5F1%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1.112%5F56%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Dtri%2520shorts%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957\">tri shorts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
