{"id":1606,"date":"2009-09-23T16:34:41","date_gmt":"2009-09-23T21:34:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=1606"},"modified":"2009-09-23T16:34:41","modified_gmt":"2009-09-23T21:34:41","slug":"twin-cities-marathon-pictoral-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/twin-cities-marathon-pictoral-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"Twin Cities Marathon Pictoral Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Twin Cities Marathon course has been quite busy this summer, just like every summer (actually year round).\u00a0 This is because the course takes in some of the coolest recreation spots in the metro &#8211; or at least Minneapolis.\u00a0 Beginning in downtown Minneapolis the 26.2 mile course\u00a0 makes a big circle before ending up in downtown St Paul.\u00a0 Leaving the sports capital of Minnesota (the Metrodome) runners take in some amazing views before arriving at the state capital of Minnesota.\u00a0 What a course.\u00a0\u00a0 Here&#8217;s last year&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/twin-cities-marathon-course-preview\/\">course preview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Below are 26 pictures from the course itself (though they don&#8217;t come from all 26 miles of the course).<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>A picture of the map&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msfc.com\/\">Hurbert H Humphrey Metrodome<\/a> &#8211; aka staging area and starting line.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>A random wall downtown along Hennepin Ave.\u00a0 I know some of the symbols are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adinkra.org\/\">Adrinka<\/a> symbols of West Africa, but I don&#8217;t know their history here.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mary.org\/\">Basillica of St Mary<\/a> is on Hennepin as well. Don&#8217;t let the old architecture fool you, they are on <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/basilicasm\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse5.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>This is WAC, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkerart.org\/index.wac\">Walker Art Center<\/a>.\u00a0 On the right is the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve heard tell that some people use it as a quick potty stop. (I don&#8217;t recommend it) Watch this hill.\u00a0 If we ran on the sidewalks we&#8217;d actually get to run under the Walker.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>TCM isn&#8217;t called &#8220;The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in American&#8221; for nothing.\u00a0 This is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minneapolisparks.org\/default.asp?PageID=4&amp;parkid=258\">Lake of the Isles<\/a>, the first among several lakes we&#8217;ll travel around.\u00a0 We won&#8217;t run by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startribune.com\/local\/59685772.html\">most expensive house<\/a> in Minneapolis, but it is located on the Isles.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse5a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Here&#8217;s another shot of the Isles.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Dean Parkway going underneath the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/midtown-greenway-recreational-mecca\/\">Midtown Greenway<\/a>.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse7.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse7a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Lake #2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minneapolisparks.org\/default.asp?PageID=4&amp;parkid=263\">Lake Calhoun<\/a>.\u00a0 On the south end there will be a cool view of the downtown skyline with the lake in the foreground.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The third lake is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minneapolisparks.org\/default.asp?PageID=4&amp;parkid=266\">Lake Harriet<\/a> which has a cool band shell and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lhycsailing.com\/\">yacht club<\/a>.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse8.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse8a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Running under the Niollet Ave bridge (I think).\u00a0\u00a0 A local marching band stands under one of these bridges and plays.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The 7ft bronze rabbit at the intersection of Portland and Minnehaha Parkway.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t figure out where it came from.<\/td>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmcourse10.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<td>We run a long ways on this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minneapolisparks.org\/grandrounds\/dist_M.htm\">parkway<\/a>. Here is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Minnehaha\">wikipedia&#8217;s<\/a> take on who Minnehaha was&#8230;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minneapolisparks.org\/grandrounds\/home.htm\">Grand Rounds<\/a> is a great way to see the major sites in the city. A nice long uphill.
