The Twin Cities Marathon course has been quite busy this summer, just like every summer (actually year round).\u00a0 This is because the course takes in some of the coolest recreation spots in the metro – or at least Minneapolis.\u00a0 Beginning in downtown Minneapolis the 26.2 mile course\u00a0 makes a big circle before ending up in downtown St Paul.\u00a0 Leaving the sports capital of Minnesota (the Metrodome) runners take in some amazing views before arriving at the state capital of Minnesota.\u00a0 What a course.\u00a0\u00a0 Here’s last year’s course preview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Below are 26 pictures from the course itself (though they don’t come from all 26 miles of the course).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Basillica of St Mary<\/a> is on Hennepin as well. Don’t let the old architecture fool you, they are on Twitter<\/a>.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nThis is WAC, the Walker Art Center<\/a>.\u00a0 On the right is the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.\u00a0 I’ve heard tell that some people use it as a quick potty stop. (I don’t recommend it) Watch this hill.\u00a0 If we ran on the sidewalks we’d actually get to run under the Walker.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
TCM isn’t called “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in American” for nothing.\u00a0 This is Lake of the Isles<\/a>, the first among several lakes we’ll travel around.\u00a0 We won’t run by the most expensive house<\/a> in Minneapolis, but it is located on the Isles.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Dean Parkway going underneath the Midtown Greenway<\/a>.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nLake #2 Lake Calhoun<\/a>.\u00a0 On the south end there will be a cool view of the downtown skyline with the lake in the foreground.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The third lake is Lake Harriet<\/a> which has a cool band shell and yacht club<\/a>.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nRunning under the Niollet Ave bridge (I think).\u00a0\u00a0 A local marching band stands under one of these bridges and plays.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The 7ft bronze rabbit at the intersection of Portland and Minnehaha Parkway.\u00a0 I can’t figure out where it came from.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nWe run a long ways on this parkway<\/a>. Here is wikipedia’s<\/a> take on who Minnehaha was…<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The Grand Rounds<\/a> is a great way to see the major sites in the city. A road, trail system, and scenic destination itself, much of the marathon is actually run along the Grand Rounds.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nWest River Parkway<\/a> has been under construction all summer, but it won’t affect the race.\u00a0 This is where I started to fall apart during the 2008 marathon.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The Mississippi River<\/a> is a national park.\u00a0 This is crossing the Franklin Ave bridge.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

This is now on East River Road getting ready to go under a rail bridge which will one day connect to the Greenway.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nUniversity of St Thomas<\/a> sits atop a nice hill and is around the 21 mile mark!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
A nice long look up Summit Ave<\/a>. A nice long uphill. And is the longest remaining stretch of residential Victorian architecture in the United States.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nBridge crossing Ayd Mill Rd<\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
A cool church on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Summit Ave.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nOne of many cool houses. If you aren’t in complete agony, be sure to check them out! They are on both sides.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
This is a great sign!! You are atop the hill and getting ready to turn left into the final stretch.\u00a0 I always felt a little let down that we turn here instead of just going down the hill!<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\"\"<\/td>\nThe Cathedral of St Paul<\/a>. When you see the steeple it is almost over!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The Minnesota State Capital<\/a> building and the finish line!!!\u00a0 Congratulations you’ve finished.<\/td>\n\"\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
