{"id":154,"date":"2008-01-09T07:32:28","date_gmt":"2008-01-09T15:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=154"},"modified":"2008-01-08T18:13:25","modified_gmt":"2008-01-09T02:13:25","slug":"scary-sidewalks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/scary-sidewalks\/","title":{"rendered":"Scary Sidewalks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sidewalks are generally a safe place for us to run.\u00c2\u00a0 Though I found out yesterday that that might not always be the case.\u00c2\u00a0 As we are adjusting to a new city and schedules I have been running in the morning.\u00c2\u00a0 This is fine except that it is dark and since I don&#8217;t have a light or much reflective clothing, I thought it would be safer to stick to the sidewalks.<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of sidewalks near us, so that isn&#8217;t a problem.\u00c2\u00a0 Except that as I reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=152\">Monday <\/a>the roads aren&#8217;t all plowed to\u00c2\u00a0 smooth surface, so goes the sidewalks.\u00c2\u00a0 I would be running for awhile on smooth sidewalk, then hit a patch of frozen snow that has been tramped through, thawed and re-frozen.\u00c2\u00a0 This makes for a running surface that is worse than most of the trails I&#8217;ve run on.<\/p>\n<p>Other times the sidewalk is clear, except for a thin layer of ice.\u00c2\u00a0 As the snow thaws during the day, it makes for wet sidewalks, which re-freezes at night.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally and maybe the worst, I was running along and stepped into puddles.\u00c2\u00a0 It was dark enough that I couldn&#8217;t tell when water had pooled and frozen.\u00c2\u00a0 My feet didn&#8217;t really get wet, which made me very happy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s the Cure?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Run with a light on the road<\/li>\n<li>Run with a flashlight\/head lamp<\/li>\n<li>Run at a different time<\/li>\n<li>Suck it up and keep running<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure which I&#8217;ll do, but I will probably keep running on the sidewalks and do the roads whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>I ran 3.59 miles in 32:29 which is 9:03 pace.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s not too impressive, but given the conditions I was happy with that.\u00c2\u00a0 My maximum pace was 7 minutes at one point according to my Garmin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sidewalks are generally a safe place for us to run.\u00c2\u00a0 Though I found out yesterday that that might not always be the case.\u00c2\u00a0 As we are adjusting to a new city and schedules I have been running in the morning.\u00c2\u00a0 This is fine except that it is dark and since I don&#8217;t have a light [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2},"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-154","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-my-running"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_shortlink":"https:\/\/wp.me\/p4iaAv-2u","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"jetpack-related-posts":[{"id":6349,"url":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2018\/04172018-run\/","url_meta":{"origin":154,"position":0},"title":"04172018 &#8211; Run","author":"crossn81","date":"April 17, 2018","format":false,"excerpt":"Fifteen inches of fresh snow made it a little challenging to run this morning.\u00a0 I knew the trails would be almost impossible so I set off down the sidewalk, again!
