{"id":1461,"date":"2009-07-08T07:34:58","date_gmt":"2009-07-08T12:34:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=1461"},"modified":"2009-07-08T07:34:58","modified_gmt":"2009-07-08T12:34:58","slug":"twin-cities-marathon-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/twin-cities-marathon-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Twin Cities Marathon Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<table border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/running\/images\/tcmlogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>It is still 3 months away but it is never to early to plan for race weekend.\u00a0 For 11,000 runners the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/index.cfm\">Twin Cities Marathon<\/a> will be the culmination of many miles of pavement (and dirt) pounded throughout the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The 26.2 mile race begins at 8am on Sunday, October 4th.\u00a0 Earlier that morning at 7:05am 6,500 runners will take the &#8220;shortcut to the capitol&#8221; by running the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/TenMile\/index.cfm\">TC 10 Mile<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Registration for this &#8220;shortcut&#8221; is via a lottery system that is currently open.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/TenMile\/Registration.cfm\">Registration <\/a>for the 10 Mile lottery goes from Monday, July 6 to Wednesday July 15 at 10pm.\u00a0 1,000 lucky runners of May&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/race-review-2009-tc-1-mile\/\">TC 1 Mile<\/a> event (including me) won a guarenteed entry into the 10 Mile.\u00a0 I obviously chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/tc-10-or-262\/\">not to use it<\/a>. This is the 11th annual 10 mile race and is again the USA 10 Mile Championship event.<\/p>\n<p>New this year to race weekend is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/5K\/index.cfm\">10k event<\/a>.\u00a0 Held on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30am this will be an out and back along the last 3 miles of the marathon course (starting and finishing at the marathon finish area).\u00a0 It appears that there is no limit to the number of 10k participants and offers race day entry.\u00a0 This also is the first event of the 2009 race weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/5K\/index.cfm\">TC 5k<\/a> is on Saturday as well\u00a0 starting at 9am.\u00a0 It is an out and back course along the last 1.5 miles of the marathon course, finishing at the marathon finish.\u00a0 It too appears to have no limit to race entries and offers race morning entry.\u00a0 Both the 10k and 5k events will be run on USATF certified courses and are chip timed.<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/FiveKAndFamilyEvents\/FamilyEvents.cfm\">family friendly events<\/a> are scheduled throughout the day on Saturday.\u00a0 All events offer pre- and race day registration. They include:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/Upload\/images\/clip_image001.jpg?resize=192%2C215\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"215\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<li>Diana Pierce Family\u00a0Mile which starts at 10m and is an out and back course finishing on the marathon finish line.<\/li>\n<li>Half Mile which starts at 10:30 am and is an out and back course finishing at the marathon finish line.<\/li>\n<li>Diaper Dash starts at 11am. Participants crawl from an inner circle to an outer circle, it seems obvious this is for the littlest of &#8220;runners&#8221; in the family. It doesn&#8217;t sound like this one finishes on the marathon finish line but does take place in the same area.<\/li>\n<li>Harry &amp; Shelly\u2019s Mascot Invitational starts at 11:15am and is a race amongst your favorite mascots.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure which ones will be there, but I&#8217;m sure Brutus the Buckeye won&#8217;t be.\u00a0\u00a0 Harry and Shelly are the TCM mascots (in case you were wondering).<\/li>\n<li>Toddler Trot starts at 11:30 and is a 50 yard dash on the capital lawn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Race fees start at $7 for the Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash and go up to $100 for the now closed marathon.<\/p>\n<p>Last year I was quite happy to visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtcmarathon.org\/Weekend\/expo.cfm\">Expo<\/a>, pickup my number and chip, walk quickly through, purchase a shirt, and head home &#8211; less time on the feet the better!
