{"id":1421,"date":"2009-06-15T10:14:12","date_gmt":"2009-06-15T15:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=1421"},"modified":"2009-07-05T08:33:37","modified_gmt":"2009-07-05T13:33:37","slug":"tcm-training-week-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/tcm-training-week-2\/","title":{"rendered":"TCM Training Week 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I raced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/race-review-usatf-mn-5000m-championships\/\">USATF 5000 meter<\/a> track race at Hamline.\u00a0 I am glad it wasn&#8217;t part of the circuit this year! It also served as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/foto-friday-28\/\">Foto Friday<\/a>.\u00a0 Over the same weekend last year was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2008\/power-of-sportsmanship\/\">heart-wrenching 3200m<\/a> for Nicole Cochran of Washington.\u00a0 You may recall the story, she won the race but was DQ&#8217;ed after the fact and then after reviewing some video footage of the\u00a0 race she was eventually reinstated as the state champion.\u00a0\u00a0 From two years ago, I wrote about running at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2007\/wild-wild-westwood\/\">Westwood Park<\/a> in New Castle, IN.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Year&#8217;s Mileage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Run: 26.9 Miles<br \/>\nBike: 67.0 Miles<br \/>\nSwim: 500 Yards<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday<\/strong> I went to the YWCA for a short weight session and swimming.\u00a0 I know Higdon&#8217;s plan calls for running an easy 3 on Monday, but for now I&#8217;m going to keep using it as a cross training session.\u00a0 Maybe as time goes on I&#8217;ll switch to running, but I think right now this is good.\u00a0 I used his suggested <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halhigdon.com\/15Ktraining\/Strength.html\">6 strength exercises<\/a> (forgetting 2 of them), which are bench press, lunges, curls, overhead triceps, sitting row, and crunches.\u00a0 I did light weights since it has been a long while!\u00a0 Then I swam for about 300 yards.\u00a0 Towards the end I kept getting water in my mouth, so I just stopped.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday<\/strong> I did a 30 minute tempo run along the Greenway.\u00a0 Once I got warmed up my foot stopped hurting.\u00a0 I ran a pretty solid workout getting 4.13 miles in during the 30 minutes (7:17 pace) and easily hitting tempo pace.\u00a0 It was 46 and overcast so a nice morning to run.\u00a0 Today was 8th grade <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">graduation<\/span> promotion at work and I was on my feet running around for most of the day.<\/p>\n<p>I woke up <strong>Wednesday <\/strong>with some of the worst pain I&#8217;ve had from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/treatments-for-plantar-fasciitis\/\">Plantar Fasciitis<\/a> in a long time, so I opted not to run.\u00a0 I got really discouraged throughout the day and at one point even thought about quiting running altogether.\u00a0 I waffled between whether I should run <strong>Thursday&#8217;s<\/strong> pace workout or not and finally came to the point of saying I&#8217;m not going to run again for awhile.\u00a0 I&#8217;m tired of my foot always hurting so I&#8217;m going to do what I should have done almost 2 months ago &#8211; REST.<\/p>\n<p>It is hard knowing that I should be training for the marathon which is now 16 weeks away, but I realized that the chances of me making it through 18 weeks of hard training with a nagging injury are pretty slim.\u00a0 I managed to get through the half-marathon training program, but it seems silly to keep pushing and injuring my body more and more.\u00a0 All that being said though, the <a href=\"http:\/\/runmdra.org\/\">MDRA<\/a> offers a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.needtorace.com\/race.php?calendar_id=5054\">fall-marathon training class<\/a> which starts June 23 (<a href=\"http:\/\/runmdra.org\/fallclass09_flyer.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).\u00a0 So I know I&#8217;m not completely dropping the ball &#8211; unless I&#8217;m still experiencing pain at that point &#8211; which I&#8217;ll probably just charge right on through if I do.<\/p>\n<p>So a little reassessment mid-stride! I didn&#8217;t do any cross-training this week really &#8211; just my bike commute &#8211; unless you count the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000VJRU44?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=crossinator-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B000VJRU44\">Wii Fit<\/a>.\u00a0 On Tues, Weds, and Fri and I &#8220;played&#8221; Yoga, Balance, and Strength games.\u00a0\u00a0 This sounds almost ridiculous to say but some of the things are challenging and really have worked my core\/stabilizer muscles.\u00a0 Stop laughing.\u00a0 You should try it sometime and see.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t really rely on the feedback about your &#8220;Wii Fit Age&#8221; because it fluctuates so much &#8211; one day I was 40 and then the next I was 26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekly Mileage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Run: 4.1 Miles<br \/>\nBike: 37.5 Miles<br \/>\nSwim: 300 Yards<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; height: 15px;\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" title=\"Reblog this post [with Zemanta]\" href=\"http:\/\/reblog.zemanta.com\/zemified\/b3421da0-ba3f-4a88-bf9c-b77319770e11\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" style=\"border: medium none; float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/img.zemanta.com\/reblog_e.png?w=625\" alt=\"Reblog this post [with Zemanta]\" \/><\/a><span class=\"zem-script more-related pretty-attribution\"><script src=\"http:\/\/static.zemanta.com\/readside\/loader.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I raced the USATF 5000 meter track race at Hamline.\u00a0 I am glad it wasn&#8217;t part of the circuit this year!
