{"id":1273,"date":"2009-06-10T14:45:45","date_gmt":"2009-06-10T19:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/?p=1273"},"modified":"2009-06-10T14:45:45","modified_gmt":"2009-06-10T19:45:45","slug":"running-to-fight-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2009\/running-to-fight-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Running to Fight Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Local runner and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cancer.org\/docroot\/home\/index.asp?level=0\">cancer advocate<\/a> Matthew Flory recently created a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=86757731982&amp;ref=share\">Facebook group<\/a> entitled <em>5Ks that Fight Cancer (Minneapolis\/Saint Paul)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the group he lists 10 5ks that benefit cancer research within the Twin Cities metro area.\u00a0 In the group&#8217;s description he say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cancer is the number one cause of death in Minnesota, but there are many organizations and causes joined in the fight to defeat this disease. Many have 5k races as fundraisers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We all know that most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/category\/charity\">races<\/a> have some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamcrossworld.com\/running\/2007\/charitable-running\/\">charitable benefit<\/a> to them.\u00a0 Some of the best known national charity running events revolve around cancer research.\u00a0 Almost everyone has been touched by this nasty illness.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teamintraining.org\/\">Team in Training<\/a> group is a nationally recognized fundraising machine.<\/p>\n<p>Flory limited his list for this group to just 5k races &#8211; they are the most common and most accessible for average people.
