Breakers Mansion

P8123065

Thanks to a friend of a friend we got a few free passes to check out the local mansions.  This one is called the Breakers and was used by the Vanderbilts during the Gilded Age.  This mansion offered an audio tour that you could do at your own pace.  This is actually a side image of the HUGE "summer cottage".  It was pretty ridiculous if you ask me!

Sunset Cruise on the Amazing Grace

P8112930

We finished out a long day of touristy stuff in Newport with a cruise aboard the Amazing Grace.  An hour long tour of the bay was a perfect ending to a great day.  We toured an amazing mansion, picnic on the water, lots of sights, and dinner on the wharf!

Providence, RI

P8102704

We spent the afternoon in Providence, RI seeing some sights before heading to our final destination of Newport. Providence is an interesting city.  It appears to be undergoing a lot of building rehab in the downtown area, but it still has a long ways to go.  Areas around Brown College, Federal Hill, and I'm sure others provide bright spots of amazing houses, buildings, and boutique stores and restaurants.  By the advice of a friend we spent most of our time downtown.  Enjoying lunch at Local 121, shakes at the Cuban Revolution, and a quick art stop at AS220.  We arrived at our B&B and had dinner at the Brick Alley Pub and Restaurant.

Oh, so this mural was in the parking lot next to the Cuban Revolution.  Providence does have a lot of amazing murals.

Skyline From East Bank

I had to go to campus today to a Fed Ex. It was another hot and humid one. Like where you sweat by sitting around. Anyway this is from the Washington Ave bridge showing the Mississippi, skyline, and the 35W scraps.

Powderhorn Lake During Art Fair

Cimg1037

On an extremely hot and humid day (heat index of 111) we ventured out to the Powderhorn Art Fair and joined the sweaty masses enjoying great art. It was hard to linger because it was so hot, but it was fun and we saw some great art!
