Weekly Report

Another busy week. I have great ideas like running home from work and getting up super early to go run before I’m “on-duty” with Nadia, but they never seem to happen! Maybe with Springing Forward I’ll have more opportunity to run, especially as it gets warmer!

Saturday was an easy 3 miles on the Metrodome loop that was very unexciting, lots of icy sidewalks and a super cold wind (-7 wind chill and steady 21 mph winds).

Sunday I went out to try a new loop which ended up being longer and colder than I anticipated.  I ran down Bloomington Ave to Minnehaha Parkway and back up 10th Ave/Chicago Ave for a total of 7 miles.  A lot of icy sidewalks, but I decided to work on running on the balls of my feet during the dry parts and then just surviving on the icy sections.  There are actually some rolling hills along the southern parts of Bloomington and I got pretty tired.

I was rewarded for my 7 miler by getting a fever and a hacking cough.

February 2011

Read 12 books with a variety of topics, genres, and styles. I finished a pretty random book that I mentioned in an earlier post, The Spanish Bow, which is a historical fiction story about a cellist during the Spanish Revolution and his struggles going from playing for the Queen to fighting for the struggle of freedom.   It was a pretty easy read and one I’d recommend if you like music and/or Spain.  This is book #3 for this year!  Check out the other ones at my Book Page.

Complete a Triathlon Square Lake Short Course, September 10. 0.5 Mile Swim 16.5 Mile Bike 5 Mile Run. I ran 34.4 miles this month, 3 less than January (February is a few days shorter though!) I also did 1/4 mile swim and 75 minutes on the bike.  Making progress on the running side.

Finish this YouVersion devotional plan (Bible Study).  Keeping at it.  They are very short, one or two verses with a paragraph reflection so it doesn’t take a lot of time, which makes it easy to do! It would only be easier if the RSS function worked properly or if it was e-mailed to me on a daily basis.

Make a substantial change to one of my programs at work. I’ve finally bit the bullet and we have started using a social entrepreneurship curriculum to get some kids creating their own businesses that have a positive social impact.  So far the biggest struggles have been trying to monetize the project ideas and getting them to do the hard reason to show why their project is needed and will work.  We are still in the research phase so hopefully that will change!

Blog Regularly I’ve been blogging in my continued variety of places.  I’m content with how the month went.  I would have liked to have written more here, but I had some posts with some substance at my neighborhood blog.  As Nadia has gotten older she’s been wearing a lot of the same clothes and such so I’ve not been taking quite as many pictures of her.  This is one of my favorites.

Learn how to use my digital camera and experiment with its features. I can’t recall making any progress on this one.  Though I did pick up a few magazines and continue to read this blog.

The most viewed post of February 2011, Curing Plantar Fasciitis, again. Number two was Treating Plantar Fasciitis, but a surprise number 3 was my post about Twin Cities Running Stores.

I’m a little disappointed that I only got 2 runs in this week.  Having Monday off, it should have been easy to get at least 3 runs on the books.  However it didn’t happen that way.

Monday I ran on the treadmill because we had just gotten a fresh dump of snow that hadn’t been removed from the roads, much less the sidewalks.  It was a good workout totally 3.4 miles.  I had set the treadmill program on random and it threw some crazy hills my way.  The problem with hills on the treadmill is that you don’t know how long they are going to be.  Knowing if you are almost at the top of the hill makes it easier to fight on – though not wanting to fall off the back of the treadmill is some great motivation too!

Saturday morning when I woke up it was -1 so I waited a couple of hours and when I left the temperature was at 0, though when I got home it was back at -1. Every one was sound asleep when I did a pretty random 4.6 mile run that included Downtown and Cedar Riverside.  I started to go out on a further route when I realized I was starting to get cold so I made a quick course correction which led me on the random route home.  It was a decent run though the fresh dusting of snow that was falling covered up the icy patches and I almost completely bit it!
