11182018 – Ski

A sunset ski on a 400m loop with my 5 year old. He ended up doing a mile most of it back and forth on the flat spot on top before hitting the downhill and completing 2 loops. He had lots of falls but kept wanting to do it – especially the downhill! When he was done he played with some kids on the side and I did 2 quick loops.

So just over 1.5 miles or 2400m skiing.

04152018 – SkiĀ

Yes, you read that right. Skiing on April 15th. It looks like we will probably be able to ski for at least another week. The Historic April Blizzard dropped about 15 inches of snow and a second round is still dropping snow!

Joe and I decided to join the small mass of people enjoying the 3k of groomed trails. Grooming was supposed to officially end a month ago! The Loppet is actually hosting a ski race tomorrow on the trails!

The trails had been groomed earlier in the day and we had gotten even more snow throughout the day so it was pretty sticky and I had trouble gliding. Joe was giving me some pointers and tips throughout the ski such as double poleing and tightening my pole straps. I didn’t fall at all but like I said it was pretty slow conditions. It was still a lot of fun just to be out.

I did 4 miles in 48 minutes. Joe did a couple extra of the small loops since he is so much faster than me!

I got in a rare evening ski this evening and was still on the trails at sunset! I did the man made trails and there were some definite icy patches but for the most part was well tracked and enjoyable to ski. Definitely the last ski for me on those trails this year, not sure if the schedule will allow any more skiing at all, but we’ll see. Did pretty much a 10k.

It was a great morning to ski. It was 35f when I got back and was sunny with just the right amount of clouds!

I tried the natural snow trails, but the bridge trail was icy, so I headed over to the man made goodness! They were setting up for the Junior Festival and had double tracked most of the trails down the middle. This was great for the classic ski me!
