Weekly Report

My highest mileage week since the 2nd week of the year!  A whopping 12 miles!! It was also the most runs I’ve done in one week, 3.  Thanks in large part to the warmer weather and having a 4 day weekend!  I was able to run on Weds, Friday, and Sunday.  The weekday runs were easy 3 milers, while Sunday was with the guys and a little longer.  I was also able to sneak in a trainer ride on Saturday while Nadia slept.

We had some nice warm temperatures, right before we got another round of snow. The warmth was nice, though it made for lots of puddles and eventually ice.  I won’t complain though.  Without the week of warm weather the 13 inches that we just got would have been ridiculous!  The Twin Cities are quickly approaching a record year of snow fall.  The record is 98.6 inches and we are well over 70, with March producing an average of 12 inches.

I also finished my latest book, The Spanish Bow.  Mostly fiction, but with some historical underpinnings, it was a somewhat long novel starting during the Spanish American War and ending in the 1970’s.  The author followed the life a young cellist from his poor upbringing, to playing for the Queen, fighting for the Spanish Republic and surviving World War II in France. If you like music or history this is a good read.   I’m at 3 books for 2010.

Weekly Report

The weekend was gorgeous!! I went for 7 miles on Saturday and then 3 on Sunday. Sunday evening we went for a walk around Lake Harriet and saw a beautiful sunset.

On Friday when I got home it was so nice outside I almost took Nadia out in the stroller but it was still below freezing so I opted for 40 minutes on the trainer while she slept.

Saturday morning I met up with Brad for an easy 3 around Harriet before setting up his Team World Vision booth at TCM’s Valentine’s 5k race.  I then headed out and did a lap around Calhoun resulting in 7 miles.  It felt good to get some distance.  I got tired towards the end, but overall felt like it was a solid run.  I picked up the pace in between the two stop lights on Calhoun’s south side and saw that I was hitting 7:30 pace which felt really nice.

Sunday morning I decided an easier run was needed so I took Nadia out in the stroller for our first run together.  It ended up being 3 miles.  Some of the sidewalks were still pretty rough with packed snow and she ended up spitting up quite a bit which wasn’t too pleasant for either of us, but she didn’t cry at all.  Running with the stroller isn’t exactly easy, especially up a hill!

Weekly Report

Last week I went for a swim which felt great. I was glad to finally get rid of my sinus congestion and be able to go for a run on Saturday. It wasn’t super long or super fast, but it felt great to put on my slippers, I mean Kinvara’s and go for a run. Not super cold and not really slippery it was a nice winter run. My lungs/heart didn’t act up. My average pulse was 176, which is listed as “anaerobic” which just means I’m out of shape!

Weekly Report

Monday started as a great run and turned pretty scary when I got about half way out.  I ran down 24th St and just as I was getting to Lake of the Isles it felt like my heart jumped into my throat.  My pulse was pretty quick and it hurt to breathe. So I stopped and walked for a minute or so.  Everything seemed normal, so I started running again.  I soon repeated this pattern for almost 3 miles all the way home.  Not a pleasant experience and pretty scary.  I was a little under-dressed.

The doctor’s suspect cold induced asthma, gave me an inhaler, told me to cover my mouth and nose, and wanted for a while at least to monitor my heart rate during training.

I also procured a sinus cold that is still lingering on.

On Saturday morning I was still a little leering of running outside so we hit the gym together, with Nadia.  I ended up running on the treadmill for 45 minutes.  Trying not to push too hard, but still get a decent workout in.  The YWCA’s nice treadmills picked up my heart rate monitor and provided excellent feedback throughout the run.  The doctor wanted me to keep my pulse at 60% which was 114.  It peaked at 187.  Oops.  I felt good afterwards, tired later.

Sunday I really wanted to run, but we decided it wasn’t the best idea so that I could try to knock this sinus thing.
