Weekly Report

Earlier this year I created a triathlon training program for Square Lake this fall – my “A” race for the year.  I wanted to build up my running miles so that I’d still be able to run a variety of races throughout the year, but also be in shape for the tri.  So I chose an Olympic distance training program with a focus on running.  BAD MOVE!

It was too much, way too much.  So this week I started a new plan that I created on BT that was setup for the exact distances of Square Lake and did a more balanced approach 2 bikes, 2 swims, and 3 runs and much more manageable time commitment. So 2 weeks in it is going pretty good.  Here are the stats from Running Ahead:

Bike: 89.4 mi

Run: 13.5 mi

Swim: 0.6 mi

YIKES! 89 miles of biking could be why my legs feel a little burnt.  Only one of those was an actual “training ride” on my Trek, the rest were commuting and riding to places.  Since I’m only training for a 5 mile run don’t expect super high running mileage, which is actually a little hard for me to accept.  It seems like it should be at least in the 25-30 mile range.  With the swim, I only did 1 of the 2 workouts.  I was waiting to hear back on doing an open water swim over the weekend but that fell through.   But still 103 miles of total training is pretty good – it will be getting a little higher in the next 2 weeks probably as the training distances increase and then will drop off suddenly in August when I’m no longer commuting.

Dailymile only said this week was “super” which is disappointing after last week’s “epic” week.

Weekly Report

According to Dailymile, I had an “Epic” week!  See their new weekly report format below.  I don’t like it as much, but they’ve revamped their website to try and monetize it.  Thus a fair amount of stuff has been put behind their pay wall.

Running  Ahead continues to provide the same stats as always and has added some new features and it remains completely free.  Though Eric did add banner ads to try and earn some revenue.  One of the new features is being able to enter your training plan into the log so that you can see what you are supposed to be doing training-wise.  I put an updated training program for the Square Lake Tri in mine. Here are the stats from RA:

Bike: 48.4 mi

Run: 7.9 mi

Swim: 0.4 mi

Brad and I did a brick workout on Saturday morning. It didn’t end up being a true brick workout because we had too much downtime in between, but I did a light jog off the bike while he went to round up the Team World Vision runners. We biked 12 miles and ran 7 afterwards and I felt really good on the run, at 8:30 pace. We averaged about 16 miles an hour and when we realized we were late we were over 20 mph. So a pretty good confidence boosting workout.

Another great confidence booster was doing a 700 yard swim at the YWCA. I finally got into the groove at about 500 yards and then had to switch lanes at 600, so just did another 100 and called it a day! There is still a gap between 600 and 800 yards (race distance) but I still have plenty of time until race day.

Weekly Report

Dailymile changed their Weekly Report format, I think as part of their new “Pro” accounts and paying money. Bummer, they had a nice thing going for them.

It looks like I did 93 miles of workouts in 1 hour, wouldn’t that be awesome!! I think I overdid it last week and didn’t get enough protein.  I felt quite exhausted by the middle/end of the week, but after drinking milk with Whey Protein and lots of nuts and eggs I started feeling better.  I think the kicker was a day of 23 miles of bike riding, with at least 5 of them pulling a double trailer behind my bike!

I’m also realizing that while my bike riding has been consistent (thanks to commuting) and I’ve been getting one swim workout in, my running needs to be more consistent if I want to run well at both Ragnar and in the Triathlon.
