January Highlights

January has been a very busy month for Team Cross.  We moved almost 600 miles to Minneapolis and began setting up our lives here! It was definitely very busy but I was able to squeeze in runs (a first look) and postings throughout the month! January was mostly a base training month for me as I work towards an April half-marathon.

Here are my final thoughts about 2007. I wrote a week long series “Week of Garmin” that explored my newest gadget, the Garmin 205.

While enduring brutally cold weather I wrote about one of my favorite fruits: the Clementine! I also saw a local news story about a guy who suffered frostbite while racing, but he still won! Well I made some mistakes too, luckily no frostbite for me.  I also had to adjust to the new reality of lots of snow and ice, even on the sidewalks.

Marathon Guide.com released their statistics about the 2007 Marathon season.   I found an older story about a running club for homeless individuals, which really peaked my interest. The Spirit of the Marathon was released on January 24th, we went and saw it. Don’t forget about the Million Dollar Marathon! At the other end of the distance perspective I wrote a tribute to sprinter Jesse Owens.

I have done a lot of “blog research” to try and make my blog enjoyable for you my friends, fellow runners, and readers.  I shared some of my “vast wisdom” one day in the form of 10 Building Bloks of Blogging!

Yesterday’s Workout

I was finally able to make it back outside! I went out for an easy four miles and ended up running 4.51 in 36:40 along the Midtown Greenway.  It was about 26 outside so it was definitely a heat wave!  It felt good to be outside, I also did my 4 accelerations.   The Greenway was pretty much clear of snow and ice, but some of the sidewalks leading to and from it were solid sheets of ice due to last weeks warm spell, followed immediately by the deep freeze!

2008 Will Be Great!

Goodbye 2007!!

Hello 2008!!

Happy New Year!

My final 2007 Workout Summary is:

  • Running Mileage – 958.7 Miles for 103 hours 54 minutes and 31 seconds or 4 days, 7 hours!
  • Biking Mileage – 117 Miles for 8 hours 3 minutes and 56 seconds over 18 workouts
  • Swimming Mileage – .5 mile for 3 workouts
  • Elliptical Time – I spent 12 hours and 20 minutes on the elliptical over 29 times
  • Rowing Time – I rowed for a total of 40 minutes over 3 workouts
  • Stair Climber – I used the Stair Climber 2x’s for 15 total minutes.

My 2008 Workout Goals are:

  • 5K – sub 18:00
  • 10K – sub 40:00
  • Half-Marathon – sub 1:30
  • Marathon – 3:10 (Boston Qualifying)
  • I’d also like to increase my swimming and biking mileage.

All my workouts are tracked at Running Ahead. I didn’t start using it until the middle of the year but went and back-filled 2007 data so some of the stuff from earlier in the year may be a little off!

Yesterday’s Workout

I did a nice 30 minutes on the bike to end 2007. I did the endurance program which basically is a long slow uphill for 15 minutes and then a long slow downhill for 15 minutes. The middle couple of minutes really hurt and raise the heartrate. It was a good way to end the year!

December 2007 Highlights

Because of the holidays, December is a very busy month for most people, when you throw in a major move and a new Internet home, WOW it gets busy! Here are some of the highlights from December:

Since it was the end of 2007 I highlighted the Best of 2007:

Winter Weather has finally come and I offered 9 Winter Weather Tips.

A friend of mine ran the St Jude Marathon in Memphis, TN and I posted her race review. I also posted another guest race review, this was from a Kokomo, IN runner about the Monster Mash Dash in Indianapolis, IN.

I finished a three-part series analyzing my training for 2007. I did a spring half-marathon, an early fall 10K and a later fall half-marathon.

Workout Summary

Friday I finished the week with lower body lifting and then hit the elliptical for just 10 minutes easy. I planned on running Saturday and was just really trying to waste some time at the gym that’s why the time was so short! I did end up running Saturday. I ran the perimeter loop at Mounds State Park which is 3 miles. I finished the somewhat muddy loop in 25 minutes flat. It felt good to run again, even though I rolled my ankle/foot about a mile into the run. It doesn’t appear to be swollen or anything, but it definitely hurts!
