What Running Equipment Do You Use?

This is your chance to leave a message and talk about the equipment you run with on a regular basis.  It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, you can just list what type of shoes, watch, heart rate monitor, etc that you wear.

I want to know what others use when running and this is a great way to find out what the running community values and sees as important during a run!

My Equipment

I’m pretty simple in my running.

I’m currently wearing Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7 shoes, a Timex Ironman 100 watch  , and on some runs I wear my Sandisk Sansa e250 2GB mp3 player  with armband .

So, what do you wear and use? Leave a comment.  If you normally get the e-mail version go to the website and leave a comment at the bottom of the post.  Click where it says “comments” and type in your running equipment.

Thanks for sharing!

Race Day: Bears of Blue River 10K

With a 7:30am start the Bears of the Blue River 10K insured a cooler start, with a little rain it was actually an excellent starting temp in the mid-70’s and a slight drizzle.  The Bears is a combined 5K and 10K.

We started out with the 5K group, not really knowing who was racing in each section.  I started with a group of women I knew from other races and knew where running the 5K.  I let them go after mile 2 which was a mistake but ran a 20:37 5K which was about 30 seconds off where I wanted to be.  I was hoping to run just under 20 minutes.  I had been having some stomach issues all week and had been fine until Saturday morning!  I felt the lack of energy during the race.

After passing the finish area, my wife told me that I was in second place overall in the 10K and that the leader was about a minute ahead of me.  The second 5K is pretty lonely because of the small group of participants and the lonely course winding along the Blue River.  That 5K pretty much stunk, I had a decent enough lead to hold onto second place but definitely should not have.

My overall time was 43:02 (3 minutes behind where I wanted to be) but was good enough for a second place overall finish and earning $50!!!

The race is a USATF certified course with the first 5K being an out and back and the second being a loop.  Only small hills grace the course that has ample water stops and overall support.  Cold water and fruit await the finishers as well as the prospect of $$$.  This was my third year competing in Shelbyville but only my second earning money.  It seems to come and go with the top runners. Last year had 2 Kenyans, this year only 1.  It got a little lonely and boring out during the second 5K but the course was very well marked.  This was the 28th annual race held in conjunction with Shelbyville’s annual Bears of the Blue River Festival.

Ok well I guess I’ll post my splits although they are kind of embarrassing.  I think some of my Mini splits were faster.

August 25 Races and a Few Notes

This weekend’s races include:

Hornet Hustle 5K located in Rossville, IN with a 8am start.

Bears of the Blue River Festival 5K & 10K (pdf) in Shelbyville with a 7:30 start. This USATF Certified course also includes $$$ awards for overall winners.

NOTES

Pendleton hosted a major high school cross country meet on Wednesday with 20 schools and about 300 runners. Six athletes were sent to the hospital with heat related problems while 20 others were treated at the event. This story and a complete recap and pictures of the event was published in today’s The Herald-Bulletin (Anderson’s paper).

The saga with the Indy Classic Marathon continues as the IndyStar reports again with comments from Ken Long, Matt Ebersole, owner of Athletic Annex, and Hal Higdon, an author and marathon expert. It seems that race organizers may have bitten off more than they could chew.

Indy Classic Marathon Date Changed

According to the Indy Star the date has been changed from Sept 8 to Nov 3 after event organizers met with city officials.

The event had over 12,000 participants registered for this year’s inaugural race.

The event’s website had this to say:

Due to other events taking place in Downtown Indianapolis on September 8th, 2007 the persons in charge of medical could not or did not have the resources to cover any emergencies that could arise during the marathon.  It was not expected for the Indy Classic Marathon to have so many participants registered in the first year of the event.

We understand that this may cause some of you to rethink your commitment to running in this year’s event due to scheduling conflicts; if that is the case we will offer a refund.  To compensate for the inconvenience for those who are registered as of August 21, 2007 and remain registered for this year and participate in the event, Indy Classic Marathon will give entry to the dinner buffet for free, and a 50% off an entry into next year’s event, at this year’s prices.

If you have paid for your dinner already Indy Classic Marathon will reimburse you for the dinner fee paid.

Please contact Indy Classic Marathon online concerning your fee reimbursement.

We offer all of you who registered our sincere apology.

All rules and regulations, and waivers of liability remain intact and effective for the new day of the event.

All registration procedures remain the same.

We will be contacting all participants individually.

Thank you for your understanding during this date change and we look forward to seeing you November 3rd, 2007 same time and place.

This event is sold out so don’t think about running it now with the later date.  I can’t imagine this will be good for future years, but hopefully it won’t hurt the race.  This postpones the race 8 weeks and will really throw training schedules out of wack.

My thought would be to ease back on the training for a week and then go back to week 8 and start over again.  You might be able to skip some of your long-long runs if you had already got them in.  I’m not a coach so I don’t know for sure.  Anybody have a thought?

You could also get the full refund and then take part in the Indianapolis Marathon on October 20, which is 2 weeks earlier.
