Weekly Report

With the Ragnar Relay looming at the end of the week I didn’t want to expend too much energy training – specifically running.  I ended up with a lot lower all around mileage than expected though.  I did a fair amount of riding around town doing errands with Nadia attached to the back of the bike so I’ll count the biking as good.

Sadly, I didn’t get a swim in.  I tried.  I scheduled an appointment for Nadia at the YWCA’s babysitting service and we showed up. Only to see signs everywhere saying the pool was closed for annual maintenance.  I had seen the signs but didn’t really pay attention to the dates.  Ugh.  I was wearing my swimsuit and had only brought 1 t-shirt so I didn’t have a lot of work out options.  So I did a 5 minute warm-up on the treadmill and spent 30 minutes stretching and using a foam roller.  The roller at the YWCA was still nice and firm so that felt really good!

Ragnar was great, but tough.  Each leg had a unique challenge (I’ll write more later).  The first 8 mile run was in brutal sun and heat that while I tried to be prepared still hurt way too much.  The second (overnight) 10k run was pretty much uphill the whole way and some girl embarrassed me in front of my van so we ended up duking it out for 4 miles (I won!).  The last 7 mile leg was all up and down – no real flat spots.  So I’m a little stiff and sore! But Ragnar is a lot of fun!
