Saturday was the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon I ran a 1:38 (1,727th place)… 10 minutes faster than last year but 4 minutes slower than my PR (personal record). The winner was 63 minutes. I’ll post pics if they don’t look too bad. It was fun to see some old TU friends, especially at the NCCAA Track Meet.

Sunday, Christy and I went to Wabash, IN to see an old high school buddy. He’s a World Vision rep touring the the Veggie Tales Live Tour. Great times…

Afterwards we walked around historic downtown Wabash and stumbled into Modoc’s Market. Modoc has an interesting story, the full story can be found from the Wabash Library.

Modoc was an elephant at a Bradley circus in 1942 that came to Wabash. Three elephants got loose from the circus. While two got caught, the third, Modoc ran wild in town for 5 days crashing through several buildings including the then Bradley Brothers drugstore. Modoc was eventually recaputred in neighboring Huntington County, worn out and exhausted.

Modoc’s Market carrys the legacy of its “Elephant Heritage” by having lots of related paraphenila and merchandise for sale. It is a great store with Italian Soda, Jones Soda, Espresso, Wi-fi, and a little cafe to sit and talk with the locals, like Christy and I did. They were more than willing to share the heritage of the store and talking about life in general and other great places to visit. We even played Connect Four. I would highly recommend a visit to Modoc’s on the way through Wabash.

*disclaimer: Christy doesn’t like the subject line, but I think its funny and me, so I left it. She loves me and will forgive me.

So I finally got around to asking Christy to marry me… Surprise she said “Yes!” I know most of you won’t care about all the romantic details, but I’ll let Christy type them here in a minute. Let me say I’m totally in love with her and she totally amazes me. I’ll never forget though the next work day after we started dating, one of my co-workers said, “Nick you’re smitten.” It is totally true!!

Here’s Christy:
Here is the scoop: After finishing a long day of work at the hospital I was surprised by a red rose and note on my car asking me to meet Nick where our journey together began. I found him at the canal walk in Indy where we had started dating. Nick had prepared a romantic candlelit
Chinese take-out picnic in the grass! I could hardly eat I was so excited that any minute the man I have been waiting for my whol
e life was going to pop the big question! It was perfect! [ A few months ago we picked a little box at Borders with all you need for a romantic Chinese dinner for two. There were little lanterns that we hung from the tree, cute chopsticks, and placemats. ]
He gave me a dozen roses!! We enjoyed dinner and some sparkling juice [thanks Pez!] together before he passed me a box of Girl Scout Cookies for dessert. Inside was the most beautiful ring that is so perfect for me. I was ecstatic as he g
ot on his knee and asked me to marry him!!!!!!! He had prepared several notes written on “flower cards” talking about how much he loved me and what I meant to him. It was totally sweet and romantic. On the bottom of each note was a Scripture reference, that he had memorized, quoted, and explained his interpretation to me. They talked about the husband’s role in marriage. What a wonderful night! I never knew being in love would be so wonderful. I praise God for this amazing man and the many adventures we will share together!!!!!

Beyond words! Bones – what a crazy guy…
Eugene, checking on the draft… what a popular guy!! (really checking on the TU Conference track Meet!)
